What To Do On and Around Daniel Island This Labor Day Weekend

August 28, 2013

Got plans this holiday weekend? If you’re going to be in the Charleston area, you’ll find plenty of ways to keep busy and enjoy the final stretch of summer here in the Lowcountry. Our suggestions:

  • Prepare for the weekend’s festivities by stocking up on fresh produce and other goodies at the Daniel Island Farmers’ Market, Thursday from 3-7 pm, and pick up Thursday night dinner at one of the food vendors or downtown island restaurants.
  • Head out to Folly Beach on Friday night for a Moonlight Mixer: Shag dancing under the moonlight on the Folly Beach Pier, featuring a DJ playing favorite oldies and beach music. A classic Lowcountry evening!
  • Cast a line off the Mt. Pleasant Pier under the Ravenel Bridge on Saturday and take part in the Cooper River Challenge. It’s a fishing tournament for the whole family, with prizes awarded in categories for all age levels. Advance registration is required, so check the website before you head out.
  • Take a trip to the beach – Sullivan’s Island and the Isle of Palms are the closest, just a 15 minute drive from Daniel Island. It’s a great way to beat the heat, particularly now that the height of the summer tourist season has passed!
