Daniel Island Club Welcomes Birds of Prey

September 4, 2013

Staff from the Avian Conservation Center and Center for Birds of Prey visited the Daniel Island Club earlier this summer, along with some very special guests: A Harris Hawk, Black Vulture, Eurasian Eagle Owl and other majestic birds posed proudly as Club members and guests learned about these creatures and the Center’s work.

As Director of Education Stephen Schabel and Educator Audrey Poplin handled and showcased their feathered friends, the birds posed, flew and even interacted with enchanted members of all ages.

Dedicated to the study and welfare of birds and their habitats, the Center for Birds of Prey engages the public in discussions about important environmental issues that affect birds and humans alike. The Avian Conservation Center’s medical clinic treats more than 500 injured birds of prey each year and has treated and released thousands of injured birds since its founding in 1991.

Take a look at the photos – these are some impressive creatures!
