Community Campout Celebrates Daniel Island's History Under the Stars

June 5, 2014

More than 75 Daniel Island families gathered at Smythe Park for the 2nd annual “History Under the Stars” family Campout sponsored by the Daniel Island Historical Society and the Daniel Island Property Owners Association and organized with the help of Daniel Island Cub Scout Pack 519. The event featured a treasure hunt for local artifacts led by DIHS member Dillon Smith, who dressed up in Colonial-era attire and set up a tent reflective of the period. Families fished in the lake, watched an outdoor movie and enjoyed a marshmallow roast around the campfire before settling in for the night. Island restaurant Honeycomb Cafe served up breakfast for the group the following. Check out photos below from an event that is destined to become another favorite island tradition for families. A special thank you to island resident Beth Bush for the great photos!
